ARTIST - ANDREW SHIFF
"I
have a special affinity for water related subjects. As a youngster,
I loved watching episodes of "Sea Hunt" and "Adventures in Paradise".
I begged my folks for a mask and fins while up at a lakeside camp
in New Hampshire. I'll never forget the first time I "saw" underwater.
It was mostly just sand and rocks but, at that point, even that
was fascinating to me.
Back
in the early 80's, I went scuba reef diving in the BVI's, and my
eyes have been more opened than ever to the colorful subterranean
wet world of wonder under the surface. I think fish and water creatures
are some of the most colorful and inventive inhabitants of our planet.
I've also been sailing with my family since the late 70's, and have
been very fortunate to spend many summer hours puttering around
in all sorts of small boats in West Falmouth Harbor, Buzzard's Bay,
Cape Cod.
All
this water has proved very inspirational and reflects in my work.
My "Big Fish" client had seen the spread of "L'Ocean" that I had
done for Berlitz Publishing, and together we came up with the idea
you see here."

"As
well as exploring the depths I also love soaring above. I've developed
quite a portfolio of aerial view illustrations, most recently, the
campus of Quinnipiac University in Hamden CT. This piece is being
used as their View Book Cover "recruitment" posters, and limited
edition artist's prints."

was brought to life by Andrew. Our prospective students LOVE it. We
used it in many forms - a viewbook cover, poster, postcards, invitations, and
travel mugs. Our applications soared. Andrew was great to work with - he
has a terrific attention to detail, plus he's creative, fun and clever.
We enjoyed the process of working with him, and were thrilled by the final
product."
