Pirate Painting* by Pete Paspalovski -
“My inspiration for this painting came from my love of history. The dramatic, adventurous eras intrigue me the most.

I start by researching my subject’s clothing, lifestyle, environment, etc. I want to capture their true essence. To me, a pirate represents rebellion, freedom and survival. What I like most about this painting is his fierce expression and the sense of foreboding the background conveys.

Hollywood has romanticized pirates but, in reality, it was a tough life. Unfortunately, it was one of the only alternatives to a life of crushing poverty and escaping the shackles of servitude.

Maybe it’s human nature, but I think we all have a little pirate in us.”
